It's an amazing, unique and thoroughly American instrument. As a banjo player, you become a part of an elite group that keep this instrument and roots music alive.I teach banjo in the Greater Philadelphia area including West Chester, Exton Downingtown, Malvern, Media, Mainline and more.Am I good? I think so. I've been playing 5 string banjo for over 35 years and successfully teach individuals in my West Chester home, or yours. I can also teach groups.Beginners, novice and advanced banjo players are welcomed. For the beginner banjo player I focus on teaching your first tune within 2 - 3 lessons (that's what its all about), and build on the fundamentals that will bring joy and the banjo to your life. It is my focus to help you achieve your individual goal and give you the tools for playing with others. If you're a YouTube learner, I have a plan for that too. For those more advanced I can provide insight and lessons that will get you up to the next level.Affordable rates, fun and deep insight into technique and good habits for a lifetime of learning and enjoyment.Styles include bluegrass (Scruggs) style, melodic and single string (Bela Fleck), and claw hammer for beginners. For those that want more I also teach theory, backup etiquette and how to map out improvisation and solos for jamming and playing with others. Having taken private lessons with Tony Trischka and group lessons from Peter Wernick and Bill Keith, my students receive the benefit of today's banjo masters from a single source.
