General Description: Coordinates all aspects of the recreational programs at Christ Child House. The Activities Coordinator shall also promote the mission and goals of Christ Child House as well as promote awareness and appreciation of and sensitivity to the cultural background and needs of the persons served by the agency and respond to those needs accordingly. While in the Christ Child House program, residents have the opportunity to participate in numerous activities. Activities are an integral component of the Christ Child House services. Residents are provided an opportunity to participate in a variety of activities including but not limited to educational, recreational, spiritual, and cultural experiences. Christ Child House Residents regularly participate in activities such as reading groups, Junior Chef Academy, ukulele lessons, Life Skills programming, board games, Christ Child Juniors, Heart Warmers, summer camp program (3 days off campus), and others, to promote their growth and development. Educational and work experience requirements: Preferred : Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, sociology, social work, child welfare or Associate's degree in related field with 1+ years of relevant experience. Required : High School Diploma and 2+ years of relevant experience. Licensure: Valid driver's license; limited moving violations in the past 5 years. Training: Completes 80 hours of training during orientation per Christ Child House Policy. In first year of employment, must complete at least 100 hours of training. A minimum of 25 hours of annual training thereafter. Physical: This position requires the ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods. This position requires the ability to stoop, squat, kneel and crouch. This position requires the ability to turn head and torso, bending and flexing arms, wrists and fingers, use of hands to feel objects, reach with hands and arms, and lift 25 pounds. This position requires computer literacy. This position requires the full use of vision in order to read forms, reports, computer terminals and printouts. This position requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle. This position requires the full power of speech and the ability to utilize telephone, computers, and other instruments of communication with clients and employees. Working conditions: The Christ Child House makes every effort to provide a pleasant building atmosphere. The position may work a major portion of the time in a non-air-conditioned temperature atmosphere. The outdoor time will involve activities with the children and local trips. This position may require some travel via, auto or bus. This position may produce physical and mental stress. Experience in direct childcare services in recreation or comparable experience required.Good moral character, emotionally stable, and of sufficient health, ability, experience, and education, to perform the assigned duties, and free of communicable tuberculosis.Awareness and sensitivity of cultural differences among agency residents. Essential skills and abilities: 1) Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with both internal and external customers.2) Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.3) Adequate physical condition to fulfill responsibilities.4) Good ethical and professional judgement.5) Interest in and sympathetic understanding of delinquent and dependent children.6) Ability to manage and secure the cooperation of others.7) Knowledge of institutional management practices with particular emphasis on the trauma-focused treatment and care of children. Primary responsibilities: 1) Responsible for developing a monthly activities schedule for daily recreational activities; coordinates with the Residential Director, shift Supervisors and Youth Specialist to ensure that the activities schedule is followed.2) Responsible for obtaining funds from the Administrative Coordinator, responsible for submitting all receipts and tracking funds from staff for activities. Responsible for purchasing tickets to all events, shows etc. in advance.3) Responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing annual off-campus camping activity for the Residential program. Plan summer camp activities and assure adherence to all policies and procedures.4) Responsible for planning all on and off campus activities including an off-campus college tour, skating, movies, outings, etc. Responsible for securing locations, vendors, etc.5) Conduct with Independent Living Skills classes, and providing life skills, health, and training to the residents.6) Responsible for planning an annual agency end-of-school celebration.7) Responsible for assisting with Operation Good Cheer and all Christmas/Holiday related gift preparation for the residents. Assist with special projects as needed, ex. Christmas donations, Operation Good Cheer, dissemination of gifts, storage etc.8) Responsible for all Holiday coordination of gifts for the residents.9) Ability to provide direction and supervision to others. Assist with supervision of residents as needed. Provide direction and redirection to residents as needed.10) Responsible for preparing a budget for all activities and submitting each budget to the Executive Director and grant writer.11) Responsible for networking with community members to maintain community relationships and establish community connections.12) Responsible for obtaining consents from parents and/or DHHS workers when needed, and to function as a "prudent parent" according to DHHS guidelines and standards.13) Responsible for overseeing the inventory and maintenance of recreation equipment and supplies. Submits reports periodically and/or upon request, to the Executive Director and/or Associate Director. Responsible for ordering and/or requesting resident-related needed equipment and supplies. Assist with preparation of equipment inventories.14) Responsible for adhering to all safety guidelines, protocols, and safety standards.15) Responsible for monitoring and evaluating therapeutic recreational activities relative to the goals of the program and make recommendations as necessary.16) Successfully interact with a variety of staff, residents, and the public in a manner consistent with high professional standards.17) Participate in program evaluative processes quarterly via Continuous Quality improvement meetings and provide data collection. Attend all assigned administrative, professional program, risk management, all staff, QA and CQI case review meetings.18) Must adhere to ethical standards and conduct and must utilize agency funds in an appropriate and responsible manner.19) Conduct monthly building Health and Safety reviews, monthly automobile inspections, including but not limited to, tracking monthly drills (fire and disaster), mileage, staff training, compliance with OSHA standards, licensing rules, etc. report to ED and appropriate staff findings of reviews. Follow up on all safety reviews and provide solutions to assure safety and maintenance of residents and staff.20) Conduct monthly detailed kitchen review.21) Develop training and other written material in a timely and effective manner as assigned, including but not limited to an emergency response plan, handling of hazardous materials, policy and procedure manual, safety manual, local office disaster plan, vehicle driver training, fire safety, etc.22) Arrange and maintain contracts for overnight accommodations in the event of an emergency evacuation23) Update all information pertaining to health and safety on an annual basis including but not limited to emergency response plan, hazardous materials policy, safety manual, and local office disaster plan, including and not limited to development of policies and procedures.24) Work as On-Call as needed. Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule within 24/7 Agency operations. Adjusts work schedule, with supervisory approval, to meet Agency needs. Manage crisis in accordance with policies and procedures25) Behave and communicate in a professional manner promoting a positive work atmosphere. Role model for staff and residents. Maintain a high level of confidentiality on all agency matters.26) Maintain an awareness to provide a safe, healthy, and risk-free environment reporting all hazards and/or concerns.27) Must adhere to the policies and procedures set forth by DHHS, and Christ Child House, and adhere to the Christ Child House Recreational Activities policy and all other Christ Child House policies.28) Serves on Agency committees as assigned. Participates in approved staff development activities, in-services, and supervisory sessions.29) Assist in investigations conducted by Department of Health and Human Services and Maltreatment in Care with investigations as requested.30) Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Agency leadership. Perform all other tasks as requested by the Executive Director, Associate Director, and/or Residential Director.
